GIS Analyst

Minimum Qualifications:

• BSc in Geoinformatics / Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or

• B-Tech in Geo-Information and Technology (GISc&T) or

• BA Degree (Geography & Environmental Science)

Preferred Qualifications:

• BSc Hons in Geoinformatics / Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Professional Registration

• Geomatics Technologist/Professional (South African Geomatics Council (SAGC)

Minimum Experience:

• 3-5 years’ experience with Arc GIS

Key Outputs:

Reporting to the Water Resource Manager, the appointee will:

• Build and maintain the GIS database

• Document and implement systems required Data Management Spatial planning and management

• Provide water meter schematic and management tools: water meters to aid billings water loss plots on a monthly

• Collect population data and keep an up to date record

• Establish procedures for data capture and maintenance of data sets

• Check quality of capture / maintenance data before populating / updating GIS data base

• Participate in GIS forum and report on information (Provincial GIS Forum)

• Liaise with Stakeholders to provide and acquire information and participate in GIS forums

• Provide GIS support on adhoc projects

• Compile maps and plans e.g. street maps, zoning and water and sanitation infrastructure

• Internal expenditure monitoring for resources required

• All received data, documents and maps into filing system

• Geoprocessing spatial data that includes buffering, modelling, projection and re-projection of data

• Archiving and filing system

• Capture and archive spatial data to the prescribed standards and associated classification to the relevant GIS model

• Store data records based on recognisable attributes conforming to entity descriptions

• Liaise with engineers, technicians, consultants and other authorities pertaining to GIS information storage

• Formulate and implement archiving processes and standards

• Capture, scan and file new drawings and store onto the system

• Establish needs of the project in conjunction with user

• Establish GIS procedures required in order to solve problem

• Write appropriate GIS macros to interface with GIS system

• Use the GIS to analyse, access, model and output data

Other Requirements:

• CAD skills added advantage

• Computer literacy essential

• A sound knowledge and use of Arc GIS for Desktop and Spatial Analysis

• Understanding of Surveying principles

• Valid unendorsed driver’s license
