Five-year performance-based contract appointment
Based in East London
Remuneration is predetermined according to the Water Board categorisation and approved by the Minister of the Department of Water and Sanitation
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of the Chief Executive Officer at Amatola Water in the Eastern Cape from the Head Office in East London.
Amatola Water is a national government business enterprise (Water Board) in terms of Schedule 3(b) of the Public Finance Management Act. As an essential services utility, it is mandated by the Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997) to offer services in bulk water supply (both potable and untreated water), waste water treatment and other related services, for public benefit in the Eastern Cape. Amatola Water commenced trading in April 1998.
Amatola Water has net assets totalling R442 million, turnover of more than R399 million and a staff complement of just under 400. There are four divisions reporting into this position, namely: Operations, Finance, Corporate Services and Planning and Development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-graduate qualification in either Public Administration / MBA/ Management/ or Finance field from a recognised Higher Education Institution (NQF Level 8 and above)
Preferred Educational level:
- B.Eng (Hon) (Civil) and extensive experience in an Engineering environment or project management
- Chartered Accountant
Minimum Experience:
- Extensive experience in Engineering operations or proven experience in financial management and budgeting position at senior management level.
- Extensive management experience with at least 5 years at senior management level
- Extensive knowledge of National Treasury’s Regulations, Practice Notes and Instruction Notes.
- Broad experience in stakeholder engagement and management.
Preferred Experience:
- 3 year’s management experience in a water environment.
- Experience in management leadership (i.e Planning, Organising, Leading and Controlling)
- Water sector experience
- Public sector experience including interactions with other Accounting Officers, executive authorities and oversight structures of legislatures.
